Typical Functions

  • Pilots airplane to transport passengers, mail, freight, or for other purposes.
  • Performs pre- and post-flight aircraft inspections; reviewing information to ascertain factors such as load weight and fuel supply.
  • Selects safe and efficient flight routes while determining risks that may occur.
  • Keeps accurate records for compliance purposes.
  • Communicates with required agencies and personnel.
  • Ensures the safety and comfort of the passengers and aircraft.

Level Descriptions

Pilot 1

  • Pilots a turboprop aircraft.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires completion of specialized flight programs and relevant experience in-flight hours.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Commercial pilot’s license, transport pilot’s certificate, and appropriate aircraft type rating.

 

Market Range: MR14

Pilot 2

  • Serves as the Assistant Chief Pilot in day to day operations.
  • Pilots multiple aircraft, including jet aircraft.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires completion of specialized flight programs and relevant experience in-flight hours.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Commercial pilot’s license, transport pilot’s certificate, appropriate aircraft type rating and advanced jet type ratings.

 

Market Range: MR15, MR17

Chief Pilot

  • Manages and oversees the operation of all university owned aircraft.
  • Manages flight operations, budget, scheduling, and completion of aircraft maintenance.
  • Supervises pilots and manages training requirements.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires completion of specialized flight programs and relevant experience in- flight hours.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Commercial pilot’s license and transport pilot’s certificate.
