Responsible for overseeing a major Audit/Compliance area for the University. This role develops and executes strategy, promotes consistency and coordination among programs, and collaborates with officials internal and external to the university. This role requires a deep knowledge of complex laws and regulations impacting a broad spectrum of operations. Management level roles have the management and development of people as a major accountability and have direct reports. This role accomplishes goals through overseeing their areas of responsibility, planning, managing resources, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of employees.

Level Descriptions

Audit/Compliance Management 1

  • Responsible for the operational and financial management, administrative direction, and coordination of staff and activities of a unit.
  • Develops strategic plan or participates in strategic planning and staffing decisions.
  • Provides guidance and direction to staff in areas of compliance.
  • Aligns staff work plans with overall strategies and goals.
  • Serves as a liaison with other departments.
  • Leads or collaborates in the development, implementation, and execution of strategy for campus or system.
  • Monitors external and internal risks to ensure policies and practices adhere to applicable regulations.
  • Provides guidance to mitigate potential risks or conflict.
  • Serves as a formal and informal resource for the University community.
  • Develops reports on departmental and program activity.
  • Provides and oversees education, training, and guidance to the University community.
  • Coordinates interactions with applicable entities, including handling internal/external reviews.
  • Establishes priorities based on relative risk.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and six years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Audit/Compliance Management 2

  • Works with campus leadership to develop, implement, and execute Audit/Compliance strategy and may work on system-wide projects.
  • Assesses internal and external risks to ensure adherence with applicable regulations.
  • Provides information, analysis, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Identifies areas of vulnerability and offers plans to avoid potential issues.
  • Manages budget and resources for the office.
  • Manages other managers and professional staff.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and seven years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Applicable certification may be required.

Audit/Compliance Management 3

  • Works with leadership across the system to develop, implement and execute Audit/Compliance strategy system-wide.
  • Provides direction and oversight to the system-wide Institutional Compliance Office.
  • Leads and provides direction to Institute Compliance Committees.

Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and eight years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Audit/Compliance Management 4

Acts under the direction of the Chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board of Trustees and is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive audit plan in accordance with applicable professional auditing standards for the University of Tennessee.
