Responsible for supporting medical functions under close supervision. This role is not responsible for providing direct patient care. Competencies for this role are usually gained through specialized or on-the-job training.

 

Typical Functions

  • Collects, cleans, sterilizes, repairs, and delivers medical instruments, equipment, and linens.
  • Operates specialized equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Maintains a daily record of activities.
  • Packages and inspects cleaned and sterilized items.
  • Works with external agencies to assist in the completion of tasks and to receive and ship items.
  • Manages inventory and places orders when necessary.

  • Ability to follow and understand written and oral directions.
  • Basic computer skills.

 

Level Descriptions

Medical Technical Aide 1

  • Entry-level role that performs routine, standardized, well-defined tasks following standard policies and guidelines.
  • Provides resolution to problems that have clearly defined solutions.
  • Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Certification/License

Applicable certification may be required.

Medical Technical Aide 2

  • Tasks vary from day-to-day and decides how tasks are completed.
  • Chooses the best options from those available as defined by policies and procedures.
  • Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall acceptability.
  • Supervises students and staff.
  • Operates under close supervision with policies and procedures largely defining how tasks are performed.
  • Participates in planning and workload assessments for the unit.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Certification/License

Applicable certification may be required.
