“Leading from Where You Are” is a certificate program designed for the professional development of all UT employees regardless of status, classification, or title. It is a preliminary learning opportunity that anchors the overall leadership development focus of UT System HR Employee and Organizational Development. The program is recommended for all employees and is suggested as part of the onboarding plan for all new hires. Participants of this certificate program will develop an understanding of leadership principles, gain a deeper understanding of leadership potential and abilities, and engage with a diverse group of participants from various campuses/institutes and levels of the organization, providing networking opportunities and the chance to build valuable connections.

Intended Audience:  

This program is designed for everyone, regardless of position or title.

Program Structure: 

  • Session 1 – The Concept of Leadership
  • Session 2 – Owning Leadership: Forming Self-Concept
  • Session 3 – Leading at all times: Leadership has no on/off switch
  • Session 4 – You Need No Title
  • Session 5 – Organizational Relationships
  • Session 6 – To Be A Great Leader, First Become A Good Person
  • Session 7 – Leadership in Action: Living it Forward

Methodology:

The program consists of seven sessions, delivered over the course of a semester via Zoom. The interactive nature of the program will encourage participants to engage with the material, share experiences, and learn from each other. A combination of required readings, independent assignments, discussions, virtual facilitated group sessions, and online presentations will be employed to facilitate learning. Participation in all learning activities is a requirement for successful completion and awarding of the “Leading From Where You Are” certificate.
