Working at the University of Tennessee at Martin is all about personal relationships for Diedra Walker, senior admissions specialist.

She enjoys the relationships she shares with professors, faculty and students. It is these relationships that prompted Walker to return to the University after several years working in the banking industry.

Walker’s relationship with UT began in 1987 as a student when she worked in a variety of offices on campus during her semesters at UT Martin.

In 2001, she began working full-time in the housing office. Two years later, she transferred to admissions.

After four years with admissions, Walker sought a change. She worked three years in the banking industry before returning to her position in admissions in January 2010.

After experiencing a new workplace, Walker realized that UT offered a better work environment and better health insurance benefits for her and her family. Her favorite part about being a UT employee is the family-oriented environment, which is why Walker was overjoyed when her daughter was accepted as a UT Martin student.

“It was the same pay, but I realized I had an excellent support system at the University,” Walker said. “People want me to succeed in what I do here.”
