System HR Update

Category: Features

With 2018 well underway and hints of spring in the air, UT campuses, institutes and system offices are abuzz with activity, and it has been my privilege to provide executive support to our UT System Office of Human Resources since the retirement of Linda Harig as vice president. Working more closely with our campus and institute human resource officers and our equity and diversity officers has been personally and professionally rewarding and confirmed what I already knew—we have exceptionally talented individuals and teams across the University of Tennessee system.

As we seek to keep the momentum of 2018 going, we are excited about getting our national search for a new vice president for human resources underway. Herb Byrd, vice president of the UT Institute for Public Service, will chair the search committee. I encourage the entire UT community to be engaged by nominating candidates and providing feedback throughout the search process. A website with details about the search and how to be involved is available at https://tennessee.edu/execsearch/vp-human-resources/.

As you read through this issue of For Your Benefit, I hope you get a sense of our ongoing commitment to serving the needs of our workforce, our pride in the outstanding faculty and staff that are a part of our community, and our desire to make the University of Tennessee an even greater place to learn and work. Thank you for all you do on behalf of UT.

Tonja Johnson, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
