Job Summary

Plans, implements, and directs administrative, educational, and technical activities of a major department within the university to include budget, personnel, strategic planning, and staffing.

Job Functions

Develops budget to support a department within the university. Monitors revenues and expenditures to assure compliance with the budget process.

Provides effective mentoring of faculty leaders including chairs and center directors and develops an environment in which junior faculty are mentored as well.

Appoints chairs and members of important committees such as search committees and effectively monitors the progress of these committees.

Communicates effectively with faculty leaders including members of the Dean’s Executive Council, department chairs, center directors, and members of the Vice Chancellor’s Administrative Committee, hospital leadership, School of Nursing leadership, and members of the Dean’s Council.

Provides leadership and participates effectively in the recruitment of students, staff, graduate students and postdoctoral students, and the recruitment and retention of faculty.

Provides effective leadership in the assignment of space for administrative, research, and educational programs and for the development of new space to support these activities.

Provides effective leadership of important committees such as the Executive Faculty Committee, the Executive Committee of the Executive Faculty, the Dean’s Executive Council, and the Clinical Chiefs.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree and ten years of related managerial experience.
