Responsible for supervising and supporting the education, research, and clinical programs in the technical services specialty area. Provides staff management to include scheduling time, performance management, supply and logistics, identifying training needs, and provides input on hiring.

Level Descriptions

Veterinary and Animal Care Supervisor 1

  • Supervises operations for a unit, including supervision of animal care technical and support staff.
  • Responsible for facility and equipment including identification of concerns, and arranging resolution and repair of maintenance concerns.
  • Applies broader aspects of established practices and procedures to situations not falling clearly within the limitations of accepted practices.
  • Creates and presents reports.
  • Arranges and assesses training needs, which may include the creation and delivery of training.
  • Performs duties of staff as a secondary function.
  • Interprets regulations and policies and develops procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Ensures that lab activities are compliant with IACUC rules and regulations.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Certification/License

Applicable license/certification may be required.

Veterinary and Animal Care Supervisor 2

  • Manages operations and administrative functions of an animal care facility, including supervision of animal care technical and support staff.
  • Serves as a Safety Officer for lab and develops procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state guidelines.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Supervisory experience.

 

Certification/License

Applicable license/certification may be required.
