Job Family Concept

The Public Service job family provides technical assistance and program services in areas of specialization. Positions within this family specialize in helping a range of organizations including businesses and government agencies achieve desired outcomes. The Public Service job family positions carry out their mission by analyzing needs, developing and delivering technical and organizational solutions, specialized training, education, and programming to enhance the performance of a defined customer group.

 

Role Descriptions

Role descriptions below outline the distinguishing functions of each role within this job family.

Public Service Professional:
Responsible for providing specialized program and consultative services. Advises and consults on a wide range of issues within a wide range of technical, economic, public, and civic areas. Develops systems and services for designated focus. This role demonstrates a level of expertise in one or more areas and is responsible for the interpretation and application of broad policies and procedures. May supervise the work of others; however, this is a secondary function of the role. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. Specialized and progressively responsible experience is required as the level increases.
Public Service Management:
Responsible for the leadership, direction, training, and operational management of areas specializing in public services. Provides strategic expertise and guidance on a broad cross-section of functions. This role accomplishes goals through overseeing their areas of responsibility, planning, managing resources, prioritizing, and directing the responsibilities of employees.
