Responsible for providing a variety of general repair and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds.

 

Typical Functions

Typical functions listed below are examples of work performed by positions in this role and are not intended to be all-inclusive. Some duties may overlap levels; however, the preponderance of the work will be assessed when assigning positions to specific levels.

  • Performs a variety building maintenance projects to maintain facility.
  • Utilizes diagnostic test equipment, hand, and power tools.
  • Inspects equipment and performs preventative maintenance.
  • Prepares surfaces for finishing and applies paint.
  • Performs a variety of plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, and other semi-skilled trades work.
  • Maintains grounds and performs custodial duties as a secondary function to the role.
  • Repairs equipment.

Level Descriptions

Facilities Services General Maintenance 1

  • Performs routine and semi-skilled craft work in support of routine building and equipment maintenance, grounds keeping, and construction projects, under close supervision.
  • Assists with minor repairs of equipment and buildings.
  • Installs minor fixtures such as doorknobs, hinges and locks, and hangs items such as pictures, clocks, and bulletin boards.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and six months of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services General Maintenance 2

  • Works under general supervision.
  • Solves moderately complex maintenance problems independently.
  • Performs a variety of specialized maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Provides technical guidance and direction to designated personnel.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and one year of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services General Maintenance 3

  • Troubleshoots highly technical maintenance issues.
  • Performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance activities and ensures issues are resolved.
  • Determines when to refer issues to specialist or outside contractor.
  • Proactively identifies and resolves issues to prevent disruptions to service.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and three years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

May require the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license, Commercial Driver’s License, or equipment operation certification. Specialized licensure or certification may be required.

Facilities Services General Maintenance Supervisor

  • Supervises and makes decisions on day-to-day operations.
  • Manages personnel including training, performance management, and personnel action recommendations.
  • Provides guidance and expertise in multiple areas.
  • Enforces policies, safety regulations, and applicable codes.
  • Inspects quality of work that is in progress and completed.
  • Orders materials and provides guidance for materials needed for projects.
  • Maintains records of time and materials for billing purposes.
  • Works with contractors on various campus projects.

Typically requires a high school diploma and four years of relevant experience, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Specialized licensure or certification may be required.
