Responsible for data analytics. This position may supervise the work of others; however, this is secondary to the primary function of the role. Competencies for this role are usually gained through formal education, specialized training, and/or experience in a program or specialty area specific to the position responsibilities. Specialized and progressively responsible experience is required as the level increases.

  • Compiles, analyzes, and manages a variety of data through the use of statistical analysis and data interpretation.
  • Creates reports and presentations to assist in decision-making processes.

  • Determines the most appropriate way to display data.
  • Presents findings to management, researchers, and stakeholders.
  • Writes queries to extract and gather data.
  • Manages databases.

  • Evaluates current and future data needs and implements procedures and best practices to ensure data quality.

Level Descriptions

Data Analyst 1

  • Assignments are clearly defined, but work is carried out independently.
  • Analyzes and interprets data, identifies areas of concern, and recognizes when there is a problem.
  • Writes queries to extract and gather data.
  • Analyzes data and creates models, spreadsheets, graphics, reports, and presentations.
  • Maintains data integrity.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Advanced degree preferred.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Applicable certification may be required.

Data Analyst 2

  • Works on complex issues requiring in-depth analysis of variable factors.
  • Selects methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results consistent with broadly defined policies, procedures, practices, and professional standards.
  • Uses innovative solutions to solve problems, and modifies solutions when competing policies are present.
  • Exercises latitude to determine objectives.
  • Performs complex data analysis which includes advanced modeling methods.
  • Leads projects within an area of specialty.
  • Designs and develops tools and applications for data collection and reporting.
  • Independently presents findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creates reports which have an impact on policies or initiatives.
  • Consults with clients to understand needs and develops tools to collect data or delivers data reports with requested information.

Typically requires an advanced degree in a relevant field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. PhD preferred.
