Responsible for support and coordination for the development and dissemination of informational materials or products by performing a variety of tasks that follow set policies and procedures. Competencies for this role are usually gained through specialized or on-the-job training.

Communications & Marketing Support

  • Assists with drafting press releases and communication plans.
  • Drafts, newsletters, news summaries, announcements, and promotional materials such as brochures and posters.
  • Proofs and edits materials for basic grammatical content.
  • Reviews documents for compliance with style and brand guidelines, consistency, and formatting.
  • Prepares and designs content and graphic work for design layouts for printing/press/publication.
  • Distributes communications/marketing materials to intended audiences.
  • Performs marketing, content, and feature research.

 

Project Support

  • Coordinates print jobs with external printers and publishers, and gathers quotes.
  • Tracks projects and oversees production schedules to ensure deadlines are met.

 

Digital/Social Media Support

  • Shoots photos/videos for events, websites, or social media and produces content for intended audience.
  • Creates social media schedule, posts content, monitors, responds to posts, and assists with generating ideas for posting on social media sites.
  • Updates websites and revises content from the information provided.
  • Designs, develops, and builds web pages which might include some programming.
  • Maintains electronic and manual storage of communication media and files.

 

Presentation Support

  • Assists with event planning such as designing promotional material.
  • Develops presentation materials and content that are visually appealing.
  • Supports presentations by gathering quotations, statistics, videos, and photos.

 

Logistical Support

  • Reconciles logs, trackers, and project schedules.
  • Updates and maintains databases.
  • Maintains media equipment and supply inventory.
  • Supervises and provides work direction to students.

  • Entry-level role that performs routine, standardized, well-defined tasks following standard policies and guidelines.

  • Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Applicable certification may be required.

Communications and Marketing Associate 2

  • Supports and coordinates specialty communications and marketing functions.
  • Tasks vary from day to day.
  • Decides how tasks are completed by choosing the best option from those available as defined by policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall acceptability.
  • Non-routine tasks are referred to a higher level.
  • Policies, procedures, and standards largely define how tasks are performed.

 

Education/Experience

Typically requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Post-secondary course work in field preferred.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Applicable certification may be required.

Communications and Marketing Associate 3

  • Supports, coordinates, and performs communications and marketing functions in multiple areas of specialty and/or creates specialized content for a department.
  • Tasks are varied in nature and require problem-solving and critical thinking skills to complete assignments.
  • Prioritizes work based on the objectives and goals of the work unit.
  • Work is performed under general supervision; however, has some independence to create and deliver final content.
  • Supervises staff.

Typically requires a high school diploma and three years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Post-secondary course work in field preferred.
